Seven Oaks Grove and Kelly Fitzgerald from The Truth In Story have worked together to create a beautiful cloth that is not only great for Rune casting, but also a complementary cloth for Kelly's new and exciting system of divination.
This Rune cloth is approximately 19 by 21 inches in size. It comes in natural white muslin or in hand stained sienina and is hand printed on a medium weight muslin cloth. The sienina stained cloth is individually hand stained and each one is unique.

The use of spread cloths are common in casting systems as they give a framework to the reading and add a beautiful juxtaposition between reading positions and the random movement and interaction of what is being cast—the best of both worlds. This is an example of my perfect reading cloth thanks to Corey Schmidt from Seven Oaks Grove for bringing it to life for me visually and physically!

First and foremost when I read, I nearly always begin from an elemental base, so having a foursquare of Fire, Air, Water and Earth with Spirit or Source at the center is a must for me. In four or five positions we can really get a clear understanding of where and how the energy at play is working. Fire shows us creativity, forward pushing, active transformative energy. Air shows us that mental realm and what is going on in our mind and how we are communicating that. Water shows us the undercurrents and emotional energies and how those reach out to connect to others. Earth shows us the rooted physical energy that might be playing out in our physical lives. The center, spirit, source, the greater story, allows us know what is happening in the heart of the matter that we are reading about. So much information can be garnered from what lands in these positions, how things land in them, and even when nothing falls into them—we learn.

The order of these going around the wheel is specific to my love of Geomancy and the way that those figures are the building blocks of energy and how they relate to the body, the first line is the Fire and the will that drives us and stands at the head, the Air is how we communicate and stands in the throat, the Water comes next and reflects our feelings and emotions and stands at the chest/belly and the Earth is how we are grounded and stands at the feet. These four squares can be used in many other ways, with the directions we have the movement of the journey whether you follow it from East to South to West to North or you are using the correspondences of those direction such as looking to the East for how the journey will begin or the North to see the journey full circle. The directions can also reflect the four seasons in looking at a seasonal cast, the four squares can be the beginning, middle, end and epilogue of a story, so many variations!

Having the secondary diagonal lines seen in the Water and Earth segments allows me to cut the spread into thirds instead of fourths. This opens up a variety of triads whether it be past present future, beginning middle end, and so forth for the huge amount of 3 position spreads that are out there to be explored. We still have the rings which is also a triad and may seem redundant but I love this visual of less of a wheel or cycle and more of the motion of going internal or deeper for physical outer ring, spiritual internal ring, and the deep soul center. It can be used for the three cauldrons in Celtic spirituality with the inner cauldron of warming influencing the next cauldron of motion which interacts with the outer cauldron of wisdom. It can be used for the three wells in Nordic traditions, the Upper, Lower and Middle realms and so on and so forth as far as your imagination and your practice can take you!
