These casting clothes are made from 12-pound cotton canvas. After cutting the bolts down to size each cloth goes through two to three dying sequences where the fabric is manipulated while procion dyes are applied. Did I mention yet, this is all done by hand haha. The dying process is like dancing with a muse for me, and I find it a great opportunity to tap into the creative energies.
For this first series (my hope is for many more), I am going for the look of an ancient book cover, or a page from some medieval manuscript. The new Ogham matt really captures this for me.
After dying and printing, the cloth is sealed with a flexible acrylic that give a nice feeling durable surface. There is a tactile feel of the canvas weave and print. To me it is a "waxed canvas" feel.
The design of the Ogham side of the matt is a tidied-up recreation of a drawing out of the Lebor Ogaim "The book of Ogham". When I showed my wife the final proofs she said, "I don't know what game that is for, but it makes me want to play it"! Lol, and that is my feeling as well. Though I know the Runes fairly well, I am still learning Ogham. So, all the more reason to uses this great ancient design!
The Yggdrasel Nine Realms Rune side of the matt is a useful aid in casting and working with Futhark Runes. In an effort to keep this as short as I can, if you are interested for more details on the design, please see my prose on the muslin Yggdrasil Rune Cloth. I will provide a helpful tri-fold starter pamphlet for Rune reading with all orders, but I am not quite ready to publish a guide on the Ogham.
Best wishes,
Corey
