Viking board games Tafl (Hnefatafl) and Nine Man Morris Free domestic shipping

$34.00

This is a two sided board game set that has Hnefatafl (more commonly known as Tafl) on one side, and Nine Man Morris on the other. The board is made from hand colored duck cloth fabric, so no two are the same (the photo shows a typical stain coloring). The images on the boards are hand printed, and given a slightly distressed look. The set comes with all the pieces to play both games, as well as instructions.

Tafl is an ancient Viking board game that was the most played game in Europe prior to the introduction of chess. It is identified in the Viking Sagas as an important element for a warrior to learn and play well in order to become successful. It is also one of a very few games that has an uneven player starting point. The "Swedes" are out numbered two to one by "Muscovites" at the start of the game. It is a very fun, and interesting game, with different strategies for each side.

Nine Man Morris is an ancient game from Rome that is often found on the back of Tafl boards. It is a very fast paced game that has some similarities to checkers.

The board is approximately 11" by 15" and the playing pieces are approximately 3/4" each. The set comes with playing pieces, pieces storage bag, fabric board, rule booklet, and storage tube.

Bought this for my kids who are homeschooled and just finished a unit on Vikings. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and the game seems of very good quality. For context my children are 11 and 8.

Very nicely made. Exactly what the recipient wanted.

Item arrived a lot later than I expected. Item appears to be of a decent quality.

Such a great holiday gift!

It came packed nicely in a tube with the pieces in a nice drawstring bag. The design is really nice and it came with a rulebook with different modes of play.
